The highly regarded and best-selling SF-8 X-Pert Zoom split fin was brought to market in 2003 after over 5 years of research and development. TUSA once again redefined the fin market in 2009 with the introduction of the SF-15 X-Pert Zoom Z3. The SF-15 further improves upon the performance, features and design of its predecessor, the SF-8, by incorporating 3 materials, increasing blade length by 10%, enhancing propeller-fin technology, reinforcing blade rails, and optimizing blade scoops. These new features, combined with TUSA's patented 27 degree Angled Blade Design and EZ strap buckle system, solidify the SF-15 as THE fin for divers.
The patented Angled Blade Design (A.B.D.) is a key innovation in the SF-15. Traditional blade fins cause a 10% loss of propulsion due to the 27-degree angle between the heel and the foot and the calf of the leg when the leg is fully extended. This results in the body being pushed forward and down, rather than straight ahead, during the kick phase. The SF-15 has been designed with the 27-degree angle built into the fin, ensuring that 100% of the energy expended during the kick phase is directed towards propelling the diver.
TUSA developed a robot capable of replicating the kick-cycle and movement of a human leg to accurately measure the performance of the SF-15. This robot can simulate swimming through the water using various kick variations, such as a large scissor kick with slow repetition. By measuring the energy expended during the kick and the resulting propulsive force, TUSA has optimized the SF-15 for maximum performance. The use of a small bent-knee kick with a light rhythm is recommended to achieve the best results from this fin, as it reduces strain on the leg muscles compared to traditional fins.
The SF-15 is designed with three materials for increased performance compared to standard split fins, featuring a multi-compound foot pocket for increased power transfer to the fin blade, reinforced side-rails to decrease blade separation and increase stability, and enhanced propeller-fin technology for optimized efficiency. These advancements make the SF-15 X-Pert Zoom Z3 the ultimate choice for divers seeking top-notch performance from their fins.
